Board of Education announces passing of Jackson County Schools Superintendent

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WAFF) - Jackson County Schools Superintendent Kevin Dukes passed away this week, according to the County Board of Education.

The following statement was released on the Jackson County Board of Education’s Facebook page:

Our Superintendent, Mr. Kevin Dukes has passed. He was loved and will be missed by many. His passion and leadership will never be forgotten. Please keep the Jackson County School District and the Dukes family in your thoughts and prayers.

According to one Jackson County official, Dukes had been receiving medical treatment for a condition he had been suffering from for more than a year.

His visitation and funeral will take place on Friday.

Dukes was born and raised in Jackson County. The life-long educator was an elementary school teacher who rose to the ranks of principal of Skyline Elementary, according to the same Jackson County official. Dukes was also a football coach and a twice-elected superintendent of Jackson County Schools. He graduated from Section High School.

The official told WAFF “Dukes was beloved, respected, passionate about students, a true collaborator, and was a friend, advocate and mentor to many.”
